The Del Monte Forest Foundation (DMFF) was founded in 1961 by the Pebble Beach Company for the purpose of owning and maintaining open spaces in the Forest. It is a non-profit corporation under Californian Law and is tax exempt for both Federal and State purposes. It is governed by a twelve person Board, no more than two of whom represent the Pebble Beach Company. Directors must be Forest residents. Under the 1984 Del Monte Forest Land Use Plan, the Forest Foundation is the designated entity to own and/or manage most open spaces in the Forrest. In carrying out its responsibilities, the Foundation follows standards prescribed by the Open Space Advisory Committee (OSAC). The Forest Foundation presently owns fee title to approximately 219 acres of open space and holds scenic easements to approximately 422 acres of open space. (See following list for details.) The Del Monte Forest Foundation has an endowment fund and continues to receive contributions from the AT&T Pebble Beach Golf Charities and members. The Forest Foundation employees a professional forester to advise on developing and carrying out programs to preserve the Foundation properties. (Portions of this description of the Forest Foundation extracted from an article written by William Penick, President, Del Monte Forest Foundation, 1993.)
