Dear Sir/Madam:
The attached "Notice of Preparation" (NOP) has been
issued regarding the application of the Pebble Beach Company
to develop its land in the Del Monte Forest. This
development application is generally consistent with the
provisions of Measure "A" -- the recent voter-approved
initiative.
The NOP is required to inform appropriate public agencies
that the County of Monterey is now beginning the preparation
of an Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for this development
as required pursuant to the California Environmental Quality
Act (CEQA). Through this process these agencies may respond
regarding the adequacy of the scope of work for the EIR
related to their particular area of concern or permitting
authority. A copy of an "Initial Study" outlining the
County's overview of the environmental impacts of the
project is being sent along with this Notice of Preparation
to the Association of Bay Area Governments, the State
Clearinghouse, as well as responsible and trustee
governmental agencies.
Although the County will not specifically respond to
public comments on the NOP, public comments will be entered
into the record and considered in the context of preparing
an adequate scope of work for the EIR.
You have been sent a copy of this NOP due to your known
interest in this development. If you would like a copy of
the Initial Study, or would like additional information,
