Thank you for your letter of July 2, 2002 regarding the
environmental status of the above referenced project.
Accordingly, the following information is being forwarded to
you to assist in the environmental review and analysis of
this component of the project:

Improvements
Description
This improvement proposed to widen and upgrade 0;7
kilometer of route 68 (Holman Highway), Pebble
Beach Entrance and route 1 South bound on/off ramp
in the County of Monterey from south-west of the
Beverly Manor Entrance to the route 1/Route 68
Junction, on route 68 between CHOMP and Route 1.
The purpose of this project is to relieve existing
and future traffic congestion and to improve
traffic safety and vehicular access to the Pebble
Beach Co. and Beverly Manor from Route 68. The
project is proposed to be funded by private
development sources (Pebble Beach Company).
Proposed Improvements are as follows:
1. Widen the intersection of southbound Hwy One
off ramp/Route 68 to accommodate one exclusive
right turn lane to Route 68, one through lane to
Pebble Beach entry gate, and one left turn lane to
south bound Hwy One on ramp/east bound route
68.
2. Widen Route 68 from Beverly Manor Dr.
intersection to the south bound on ramp
intersection to accommodate two east and west bound
Route 68 travel lanes and intersection improvements
to include:
- a mandatory westbound right turn from route
68 to the Pebble Beach entry gate;
- one through lane to south bound Hyw One on
ramp; and
- one eastbound Route 68 through lane; and the
Pebble Beach entry gate to accommodate
3. Widen the Route 1 southbound off-ramp to
accommodate one exclusive right-turn lane, one
through lane, and one left-turn lane.
4. Reconfigure the southbound Hwy One
on-ramp/Pebble Beach entry intersection with Hwy 68
to form a five-legged intersection to separate the
Pebble Beach Entrance from the route 1 on-ramp
entrance, allow
5. Modify the Route 1 southbound on-ramp to
accommodate two lanes (one extending from the
Pebble Beach entry and the other from eastbound
route 68) and retaining wall along the on ramp.
6. Modify signals, traffic signs, roadway
striping to accommodate improvements.
